SeqOps Agent Installation Guide
Step-by-step instructions for deploying the SeqOps Agent on supported Windows and Linux servers.
This guide explains how to install the SeqOps server agent on a Windows or Linux server so the platform can monitor it for vulnerabilities and configuration risks. Each server is registered in SeqOps first and receives its own set of credentials, which the agent uses to register itself.
Overview
The SeqOps server agent collects security-relevant metadata from the server and sends it to the SeqOps platform over an outbound connection. The installation flow is the same on both operating systems:
- Register the server in SeqOps.
- Copy that server's credentials.
- Download and install the agent package.
- Register the agent with the provisioning helper.
- Verify that the agent services are running.
Server data appears in SeqOps within 6–24 hours of a successful installation.
Before You Start
- •You have administrator access to the Windows or Linux server.
- •The server allows outbound HTTPS to the SeqOps platform. No inbound firewall rules are needed. See Running the Agent Behind a Proxy or Firewall.
- •Your plan has a free server agent slot. See Choosing Your Plan.
Step 1: Register the Server
- Open Server → Activation.
- Enter the server name.
- Select the operating system type.
- Click Register.
Step 2: Copy the Server Credentials
- Open Server Dashboard → Server List.
- Select the server you registered.
- Open the action menu and choose View API Secrets.
- Copy the Tenant ID, Server ID, and Registration Token.
Each server has its own credential set. A set is valid for roughly 7 days and can be used once, so register the server shortly before you plan to install the agent.
Step 3: Install on Windows
-
From the server action menu, choose Download Agent. The download link expires after about 3 minutes, so download the package straight away.
-
Extract the package on the server.
-
Open PowerShell as Administrator and install the services using the package instructions.
-
Register the agent with the credentials from Step 2:
./provision_helper.exe --server-url https://sepi.seqops.io:8443/api --server-id <server_id> --registration-token <registration_token> --tenant-id <tenant_id>
-
Open Services and confirm that Seqops Server Agent and Seqops Updater Service are both running.
Step 4: Install on Linux
-
Download the Linux agent package from the Download step of the registered server in Server → Activation.
-
SSH into the server and extract the package.
-
Install the services:
sudo ./serveragent --install
sudo ./edr_updater --install
-
Register the agent with the credentials from Step 2:
sudo ./provision_helper --server-url https://sepi.seqops.io:443/api --server-id <server_id> --registration-token <registration_token> --tenant-id <tenant_id>
-
Confirm both services are installed, enabled, and running:
systemctl status serveragent
systemctl status edr-updater
Step 5: Verify in SeqOps
- •Confirm the server is visible in Server List.
- •Confirm the provisioning helper completed without errors.
- •Return after the 6–24 hour sync window and check that data is populating for the server.
For screenshots of each step, see Server Onboarding: Windows & Linux.
Troubleshooting
- •Provisioning fails — Check the server URL, Server ID, Tenant ID, and Registration Token. A credential set that has expired or has already been used can't register an agent.
- •Services don't stay running — Review the local service logs on the server.
- •No data after 24 hours — Work through Agent Shows Offline: Step-by-Step Diagnosis.
