Allocated Capacity vs. Customer Usage — the two numbers that answer different questions
A worked example of how allocated partner capacity differs from what a customer actually uses.
Allocated capacity tells you what you can still assign. Customer usage tells you how much of its package a customer is actually using. They answer different questions, so track them separately.
Worked Example
- You assign an Edge package to Customer A. Edge reserves 20 Server Agents and 3 Cloud Connectors.
- Those 20 agents and 3 connectors leave your available capacity immediately — even though Customer A has 0 agents installed.
- Customer A later installs 15 agents. Nothing further is deducted from your capacity. The 20 were already reserved.
- The 5 agents Customer A isn't using stay reserved for Customer A. They are not available to any other customer while the assignment stands.
The Two Numbers
| Number | Example | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Partner capacity allocated | "150/200 Agents allocated" | How much capacity is left to assign to new customers |
| Customer usage | "Customer A: 12/20 in use" | How much of its own package a customer is using |
The dashboard shows these two numbers separately.
Why It Matters
- •Plan new customer onboarding from your allocated number, not from usage.
- •Use each customer's usage number to spot customers who may need a bigger package, or who have room to grow within theirs.
